How to add a CCK field to a link in a block in Drupal

That title is a bit "the house that Jack built" so let me explain what this is about. Let's say you have a Drupal website and you're using CCK to hold some piece of data or content. Let's also say you want to have a block which takes that CCK field's content and adds it to a link (which could be internal or external). This is one way to do that.

First, ensure your CCK field has been created. You'll also need Views, so install that.

Now create a new View with a block display.

Click on the plus symbol to add a "Field", scroll down to find your CCK field and click Add.

Hello Drupal 7! Install & Admin

Drupal is like my little not-so-secret weapon. It's very powerful, contributed modules make it easy to launch useful & interactive websites, and with just a few minutes of tweaks it's an SEO machine.

I'm psyched about Drupal 7 all while dreading the endeavor of upgrading.

I installed the Alpha-1 version of 7 on my laptop to give it a spin, and I have to admit, it's a nice step forward.

Displaying Random YouTube Video with PHP

HTML, sure...CSS, yup...PHP, not so much.

Since I don't put any energy into learning PHP, I like finding snippets of code that I can easily tweak and post to a website. Below is a PHP script which will randomly choose a YouTube video (from a list of videos you place in a file) and display it on a webpage.

forDrupal's Platino Drupal Theme Review

forDrupal.com's Platino theme is designed for social websites, its demo displaying it incorporated with the Flag module, and some custom PHP work to pull that information into user profiles, and displays on nodes.

This is both the good and the bad of the theme (read Features section for more).

CMSQuickStart Drupal Theme Review

Full disclosure: CMS Quick Start provided me with the theme at no charge in exchange for the review. I was not asked to do anything other than write an honest review of their product, and everything below is exactly that, my honest opinion.

ThemeSnap Drupal Theme Review

Continuing the original review of premium Drupal themes post, and by request, I've put a small review together of one of ThemeSnap.com's Drupal themes.

My original hesitance to review ThemeSnap was the cost of the themes, however; the cost of the themes have recently been reduced to between $89 and $99 each.

Launching VermontBusiness.com

Michelle probably thinks I'm a little crazy for building so many websites.

Recently I launched vermontbusiness.com (and even though Michelle thinks I'm crazy, she's helping me!). The goal of the site is to be a resource for Vermont residents and visitors to find lodging, shopping venues (malls, retail shops, local favorites), recreation (skiing, golf) and a good deal more. Currently, it's a tad sparse. Not many businesses are listed, but everything is functional, from maps to reviews.

So, if you own or are looking for a Vermont Business, please visit the site and provide some feedback. Use the contact form on the site to send me your business' address and details on what you sell or provide.

Building VermontRestaurants.com

At this very moment, I'm starting work on VermontRestaurants.com

I'm eager to launch, but will be waiting to ensure it's a quality and useful site. It's goal is to help promote local restaurants, and grow a community of people like myself who really love some of the local choices to share favorites.

Jump over to Vermont Restaurants and bookmark it. Check back periodically for launch information.

Is Chewing Gum All Marketing? And What My Choice Says About Me

I bought a pack of Orbit peppermint gum (at Best Buy of all places) but I realized while standing there looking at my various options, that I really didn't have much of an option at all...peppermint gum just seemed to be, well, peppermint gum. Was I voting for which gum then had the best marketing?
