Automotive SEO

I am a full-time automotive SEO consultant performing search engine optimization for dealerships around the United States and Canada at Dealer.com. Automotive SEO can be both challenging and fun. My day-to-day activities include analysis of search engine performance for our clients, researching issues and opportunities, reading about the latest developments at Google, Yahoo! and MSN, content writing and link building.

I’ve recently started a personal project to help research search trends in the automotive industry. I’ve also noticed many SEO “consultants” selling what I would consider to be less-than-ideal websites. Why would an SEO consultant go against what the experts are saying?

The world of search marketing for car dealerships grows everyday. I remember when I first started performing SEO for sites it largely consisted of content writing and some fundamental link building. Today it’s significantly more complicated as we tackle things like social media, social networking and reputation management (which is an important one for dealers). No one likes to have a bad review pop-up in the search results when someone searches for their business’ name, and hiring an SEO firm to handle that is a good way to go. There are things that can be done to turn an unhappy customer around, change the negative review to a positive one, and push other positive pages up in the rankings.

I’m happy to answer any automotive SEO questions here. Leave a question using the “Reply” form below, and if I think others will benefit from the information I will make it available. You can contact me here.

an seo firm is telling me to add a bunch of stuff to my meta keywords to my car dealership’s website, but I heard these aren’t important…are they worth anything?

Meta keywords may still hold a tiny (stress “tiny”) benefit with MSN and Yahoo!, but it’s nothing to Google. I get requests for meta keyword updates often, and to help educate people I send them to SearchEngineLand.com to take a look at their keywords. Notice they’re “qiskodslajdmnkd, ddakaieciuaj jkdalladpaoaw, wdaopeqndlkakljad”. I put in keywords largely out of habit. Don’t worry yourself over them.
